Butler, TN Properties

Butler, TN is a quiet community located along the shores of Watauga Lake. It has a current population of 3,777. The original Butler, now known as Old Butler, sat along Roan Creek. It flooded a great deal and was originally called Smith’s Mill. This name came about because Ezekial “Zeke” Smith built a gristmill in 1920 that operated along the banks of Roan Creek. The town was later renamed in honor of a Union Army Colonel named Roderick R. Butler. Colonel Butler’s stately mansion sits inside the Mountain City limits.
